The speculation about The Game Awards has been intense, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious photo of a desert monolith. The question is finally answered. The acclaimed developer is working on a fresh Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was debuted with a daring trailer that included striking imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very descent into chaos.
Not the Expected Sequel
For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio clarified that a direct sequel to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.
That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This phrasing implies that the team is likely building a real-time experience as opposed to another turn-based title. For now, this is speculation, as only a cinematic trailer is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it kicked off the modern wave of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for intricate stories, branching plots, and flexible progression—qualities that later found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the remarkable agency granted to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is full of niche playthroughs you can achieve if you're playing as a distinct build with a personal story.
The series is also notoriously permissive, enabling players to experiment throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be solved in a variety of manners, often in lateral fashion.
- You might find an answer because you recalled something a dog told you.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a inventive way.
More to Come
It is these creative systems that have cemented the series to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games ever made. Now, fans can get ready for another adventure in this groundbreaking franchise.
